The Santa Cruz occupiers have denied having anything to do with the 200lbs of human feces found about a 1/4 mile from their camp, but in this video from a local News station one of the occupiers admits there has been a serious problem with sanitation at the camp, which until a few days ago had just one porta-pottie for 100 or more people:
Again, it’s not proof that Occupy Santa Cruz is responsible, but I don’t think it’s a stretch to see a possible, even likely, connection, i.e. campers with limited facilities that fill up quickly, human waste dumped nearby.
This was a local story until the Mercury News covered it and VS helped bring it to much wider attention. Now it’s possible that attention could play a role in the city’s decision whether or not to allow Occupy Santa Cruz to continue campingin the park:
Santa Cruz city council is set to discuss the Occupy encampment at Tuesday’s closed session city council meeting.
Given the laundry list of problems, including the poop, Santa Cruz should follow the lead of New York, Oakland and other big cities and remove the camp.
